The Workers Walkway

The Workers Walkway
This mule track located at the foot of the Summano crosses the Pra ‘della Tezza locality and continues towards Piovene. It was traveled daily, in the last part of the 19th century and for most of the twentieth, by workers who from Santorso went to work at the Lanificio Rossi in Rocchette, a wool mill.
The way of the workers can be covered on foot.
The section in the municipality of Santorso has currently been redeveloped.
The route develops in return on the same route.
Average travel time round trip 1h.

Pra’ della Tezza
Prà della Tezza is a place used since the past centuries for the cultivation of vines, fruit trees and for the timber that was present in abundance here. The south-facing position, therefore always exposed to the sun, allowed a good production. Furthermore, to facilitate the work, masière, that is dry stone walls, had been built to support the ground and make it flat.
The Prà della Tezza mule track was also used as a passage and transport area for wood, straw and hay. The term Tezza (in dialect), from which this street takes its name, indicates a structure used to repair, dry and store crops.
During the late 1800s and for most of the 1900s, this road was used by the workers who went to work from the Santorso area and neighboring areas at the Lanerossi in Piovene Rocchette.

Lanerossi Piovene
The Lanerossi plant in Piovene Rocchette, called “Rocchette 1”, had a capacity that could accommodate 12,000 spindles. It was built in 1869 on the right bank of the Astico stream. Designed with an architectural structure typical of the second half of the nineteenth century, it presents a series of pavilions (covered by a Shed ceiling) arranged in steps according to the conformity of the terrain.
Currently abandoned, it still retains the original environments. The thermal room is imposing, with enormous boilers and purification plants, arranged over the decades and strengthened with the construction of a dam on the stream, which made it possible to reach a driving force of 2500 Hp.
