THE SANCTUARY of SAN ORSO
It was built between the end of the 18th and the first half of the 19th century on a design by architect Ottone Calderari (1730-1803) who radically modified a previous Gothic church. In neoclassical style with an octagonal plan, it is certainly the religious building of greatest architectural interest in Santorso. It imitates , in the facade ,the church of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice by Palladio. Remarkable are the paintings kept in it, some of which are attributed to Alessandro Maganza
Besides the mortal remains of San Orso, an image of the Madonna of Mount Summano, transferred to this church in 1777, is also venerated here.
SAN DIONIGI CHURCH
This church has medieval origins, certainly before the 13th century. It is the only church in the diocese of Vicenza dedicated to this saint and, according to tradition, it welcomed the mortal remains of the penitent Orso who died a few steps from it on May 3, 800. The town also took its name from this confessor . The oldest walls are decorated with frescoes dating back to the 14th century while the “Pietà” painted on the apse dates back to 1579.
Today this place hosts cultural events.
